europe 101.

i leave for europe in 37 days. for one of my art classes for the tour we were given suggestions of books to get and read before the trip. i got europe 101 and mona winks...oh and a 961 page, probably 15 lb book the history of art. we'll see how far along i get.

video of the week:

spencer robinson gets credit for this. he posted it and it caught all of my attention.
prize if you can name all of the art or at least artists in this video. (i'll list the ones i knew off the top of my head at the bottom, i was impressed.) the band is hold your horses.

food of the week:

now, the girl isn't included, just the cookies. i heard people talking about their delicious girl scout cookies, and i missed those days when i was so awesome at selling them, and always having so many around every year. i have been eagerly awaiting an encounter with a little girl dressed up as a cookie. and when i went to bi-lo to rent ponyo (which i haven't seen yet and am so mad about) i saw them, caramel delights, or a girl dressed as one. bought three boxes [thin mints, pbutter patties, and shortbread] and my family and i finished them in a day. golly.

book of the week:
i've always seen so many people reading jodi picoult, i thought i'd see what the big deal was about. so, off to the library, i got 'the pact'. it looked the most interesting, and i have already seen 'my sister's keeper'. it's a massive book, maybe it's the giant font, but i'm only 10 pages in, so we'll see. got any book suggestions?

car of the week:
i will probably never even get close to buying a vw bus in my life...but i can dream right. it would be difficult to drive it and not want to paint it like a watermelon on that something-candy commercial. i just like blue color and red stripes.

artist of the week:
jen renninger.
not from PORTLAND!
she from the south east, florida. she's an illustrator and designer. some of her illustrations have been in o magazine, better homes + gardens, and new york times. exciting. these were too of my favorites. i had an idea for something like this after watching imogen heap performing, all the wackiness in her hair. i thought i'd do portraits of some friends and have things in there hair that show who they are...or what they're interested in...we'll see. either way, she's wonderful. the artist i mean, although imogen heap is too.

musician(s) of the week:
so, i had to stop myself from showcasing hem, rosie thomas, or hannah georgas. although, i really wanted to. because i've been listening to a lot of these dears this week, it's been quite stressful and hectic all week, so they've calmed me down alot. but! i keep having simple sweet gals musicians, so i need to display some other talent i think....

AMERICANA.
cory chisel and the wandering sons.
beyond listening to a lot of emmylou harris and gillian welch lately, i've gone back to some older music i used to love.
last year...or maybe almost two years ago. i got a wonderful paste magazine sampler cd. (seriously, the best mixes and wondrous music ever.) and cory chisel was on there, i could not stop listening to 'home in the woods'.
and 'born again' is great too.

creation of the week:
more headbands. i just made a few today.
although, i'm working on a painting right now, it will be done this week.

(it's probably hard to tell, the floral one is just some retro flower fabric, that was left over from my elastic waist skirt i made this week. i saw one at target, and was like, i can make that....and i did. and then the other are just 6-7 black felt roses in a row.)

side-note: my mom is paying for me to get my hair done before i go to europe. my lovely salon i used to work at...i just have to decide. stay this red. go back to light brown. go another color?
and what hairstyle should i get? keep growing it out. blunt cut. go a-line again?
i would love to have kate nash's hair. and her short bob is cute too...

OH! AND HOLD YOUR HORSES! the artwork in the video, appearing first:
vincie last supper, birth of venus, forgot, women with the peal earring, liberty? i think is what it's called by delacroix, death of marat, forgot, apple guy? mondrian, frida, ?, the scream, van gogh self portrait, warhol, forgot, forgot, is that the sisters..beheading the guy..., ack....liberty again, can't remember, the kiss by klimt, frida, van gogh, mondrian, apple face? the scream, warhol, chagall...the goat, haha, forgot...van gogh's flowers....heck yes.
