it's been over a year since i've blogged.
oh well. i ran out of the desire and the time i suppose.
it is 2012, and i've decided again to simply dedicate my blog to art solely.
as important as music and books, etc are to me right now in my life art is my main priority.

i was recently accepted into the BA (bachelor of arts) program at BYU. and now i am ONLY taking art classes, what a looooong time coming (try 3 1/2 years of college). this semester my class schedule consists of figure drawing, ceramics, sculpture, 3d, framing, and lastly, and i think most importantly, studio seminar.
in this class every week a different artist comes and gives a lecture to the different visual art majors. i love it. it's probably my favorite art class to date (after my classes whilst in europe of course, ha). there is just something so largely inspirational to me to hear the stories and successes and failures of rising artists.

i have made a large handful of new years resolutions.
my art being at the top of my goals (amongst running 2 more half marathons & flossing daily).
i am going to copy artist Emily McPhie by posting weekly drawings drawn on Sundays.
i am also going to post weekly artist bios and pictures of their artwork, in an attempt to share art that inspires and especially artists who have made it with others.
art is still important and i think we should always be enjoying and seeking after art, in all it's forms.
i hope to learn from these artists and their hard work. and that having this deadline of posting to my blog will help me in my procrastination of artwork.


first artist.
EMILY MCPHIE.
i think i came across her work while looking at a gallery show including art of my teacher Fidalis Buehler at BYU.

emily is an artist living in arizona with her husband and 4 children.
i love how influential motherhood is in her work.
she does a lot of paintings using her children as models. and i really like how she paints people, sometimes they are just sort of whimsical with their shapes and colors.
i'm attracted to her work because of the rich colors, and especially the patterns. i love patterns, and have done a few pieces using painted patchwork designs.
here are some of my favorites!


i really love this piece. i think her skin is beautiful, and i just love all the bright patterns and how well they work together. i also am attracted to the fun hat and how she almost looks clown like. reminds me of a character from the movie Little Nemo. anyone remember that old one?


i don't know what it is about human with animal parts or animals with human bodies, but i find them so witty and fun. and this one especially does it for me.

i believe i read that this was a commission piece she did of these adorable brothers, and i love this. i would be beyond happy in my life to do commission pieces like this, it's so fun and full of life. i love their hats and the colors.

this is a piece from a show she did with her family, and the other pieces have her daughters and they are all being directed by her hands from behind the fence, like marionettes almost.
i love the way the values in the skin are so detailed in comparison to the flat patterned skirt. and i love the flowers in the background and that owl! my gosh.

the other great thing about emily mcphie is how great of a mother she is. she puts up on her blog all the fun things she does with her family, and is essentially who i want to be when i grow up (plus my mom). she is doing exactly what i plan and want to do for my family, i mean look!

painting a sailboat in her little boy's bedroom, i've wanted to do that since i was 13.

and sewing this precious little tie on her baby's onesie. adorable.












she also made this awesome doodle book for her nieces and nephews. and i've always wanted to make a homemade/drawn coloring activity book for my kids.



point of the story is. emily mcphie is a wonderful artist and an amazing mother.
